Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti is a regional holiday in India, which is celebrated on the fourth day of the Hindu calendar’s Ashwin month, which corresponds to late September or early October on the Gregorian Calendar.

Mostly it is observed in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The day is celebrated to honour the birth anniversary of the respected Hindu king, Agrasen Maharaj, who believed in nondiscrimination and equality.

His descendants follow in his footsteps in social welfare activities and spread the messages of equality, and brotherhood among people for the betterment of our society.

They organize free medical camps, distribute food for free, and host cultural programs and functions in several places to teach about his life and times.

History of Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti

Maharaja Agrasen was the king of Agroha and also believed that he was the originator of the Agrahari and Agrawal. On his birth anniversary, his descendants remember him and try to follow in his footsteps.

Maharaja Agrasen was the son of King Vallabh of Pratapnagar, now Bangladesh. He belonged to the Suryavamsha Kshatriya Dynasty.

He was not popular due to his ability to conquer his rivals but his compassion, which was inside him from a very young age.

Maharaja Agrasen was a staunch opposer of discrimination, everyone was equal before him. he initiated a social concept called “one brick and one rupee”. According to this concept, each household already in the city of Agroha would provide one brick and one rupee to each new family settling in the area.

The bricks may be used to construct the new family’s home, and the cash could be used for business ventures.
