Updated February 5, 2022

Diploma in Electrical Engineering is a three-year-long engineering course that focuses on the development of the skill of the candidates. Students are taught a wide range of topics such as signal processing, power, control systems, telecommunication, and electronics during the course. This skill-based programme also offers a considerable annual salary to electrical engineers. The aspirants can pursue the programme right after completing their Xth board with having obtained an excellent grade in Mathematics and science from a recognized board. This course is suitable for students who are bitten by a science bug.

In recent decades, the world has seen a drastic growth in the field of electricity. Everything now is interconnected with electricity which has made the requirement of professionals in the same field. So, to fulfill the requirement of electrical engineers in various electrical sectors, the Diploma in Electrical Engineering course has been brought in. However, it is interesting to note that employment in the electrical field first made its presence in the latter half of the 19th century, after the commercialization of the electric telegraph and electrical power. But, now the field offers numerous careers in the sectors, including Telecommunication Sector, Railways, Research and Design, Defense, to name a few. The field of electrical engineering can be described as a branch of engineering which generally involves studying and applying electronics, electricity, and electromagnetism. This field requires certain qualifications from the candidates to finally get Admission.

Eligibility Criteria to Diploma in Electrical Engineering Programme

This program requires basic qualifications from the candidates to be eligible and get Admission. Under the course, students are provided enough knowledge and skills that finally help in getting jobs in various electrical-related sectors. The institution has set a minimum qualifications bar to provide the course. To make a mental map for the students, I have narrowed down certain eligibility criteria that have been set up by the institution. The aspirants would have to fulfill these specific eligibility criteria to get Admission in the Diploma in Electrical Engineering-

(a) The students seeking Admission in the curriculum must have completed their class 10th from a recognized board or institution.

(b) Also, the students must have obtained excellent grades in Mathematics and Science. Having excellent grades in these two compulsory subjects is the essential requirement to get Admission to Diploma in Electrical Engineering.

(c) The candidates who have successfully passed their intermediate or higher secondary examination from a recognized board with PCM as compulsory subjects are also eligible for this curriculum.

(d) The aspirants are also required to qualify for the entrance examination conducted by the various state authorities such as Delhi CET, JEXPO, HP PAT, BCECE, etc.

Admission Process to the Diploma in Engineering Curriculum

Admission to the Diploma in Electrical Engineering is merit-based. However, there are various states that conduct entrance exams to provide a seat in the programme. The aspirants would have to cross the minimum cut-off marks set up by the entrance boards. Several states conduct entrance exams to provide Admission to the Diploma in Electrical Engineering every year. The students of the respective forms must give an entrance exam and clear it to access the Diploma in Electrical Engineering programme. It is mandatory and a chance for every student interested and highly motivated in science-related things. After crossing a minimum set up marks, the eligible candidates would be called for a counseling round. Based on the entrance exam score, candidates will finally get Admission to the Diploma in Electrical Engineering course. To make a clear mental map for the students, I have listed down 4 phases that a student would have to go through to be admitted to the curriculum finally. Among them are-

(a) This is the first phase for the Admission to Diploma in Electrical Engineering programme. In this phase, Aspirants would have to check whether they are completing the basic and essential qualifications for the programme or not. If the candidates are eligible, they can apply for Admission to the course.

(b) If you have reached this phase, it means you have completed your first phase. In this phase, you will have to fill the application form correctly. After a few days, you will get the admit card to appear for the entrance exam.

(c) The third one is the most critical phase because the selection of candidates is based on the performance made in the entrance exam. In this phase, you will have to appear for the entrance exam of the course and qualify for it.

(d) Once you qualify for the entrance exam of the respective state level entrance exam, you will be called counseling for the course, and there you will finally get Admission in the curriculum.

Direct Admissions in Diploma in Electrical Engineering

Direct Admission is the other way to get access to the curriculum. If the students are not interested in the giving entrance exams, they could get Admission into Diploma in Electrical Engineering course on the basis of the score obtained in the Xth board examination.
