A Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences or popularly known as BNYS, is a 5 and ½ year undergraduate course. The BNYS course aims to provide theoretical and practical knowledge to profess spiritual, physiological, psychological and self-healing therapy. In essence, the course focuses on naturopathy and yogic therapy to heal the patients’ bodily ailments.

What is BNYS Full form?

The Full form of BNYS is Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences. The BNYS course is a five and half year long bachelor level degree program. The students who graduate with a Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science program can practice anywhere in India.

The Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences is a 5 and ½ years long undergraduate programme that provides necessary knowledge, skills and experiences to the students in Naturopathy and yogic therapy. Students under the course learn various applications of yogic principles with an objective to provide spiritual, psychological or physiological healing therapy. Notwithstanding, they are also taught Naturopathy medicine system to cure the patients’ ailments. The naturopathy system of medicine employs an array of scientific and pseudo-scientific practices which are natural, non-invasive, and self-healing in nature. The course comprises the application of meditation, History of Naturopathy, Nutrition, the study of scriptures, Medical Jurisprudence, pathology, chanting etc., among a variety of other aspects to develop the students into professional practitioners.

BNYS Course Eligibility Criteria or Requirements:

Aspirants who aspire to learn the Naturopathic and Yogic systems of medicine to help the individuals in curing bodily ailments without any traces of side effects can pursue the BNYS (Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences) course. This highly professional course requires some standard eligibility requirements, including done 12th standard with a recognized institute, essential skills, clear national level or state-level entrance exam, to name a few. Here are the requisite criteria to be eligible to pursue the course.

(a) Aspirants should have passed the 10+2 standard from a recognized institute (CBSE/ state) or any equivalent exam conducted by the state board or equivalent board.

(b) Students who have completed class 12th standard should have obtained at least 50% of aggregate marks in physics, chemistry, and biology (PCB).

(c) Any individual who has just completed class 10th and aspire to pursue the BNYS program, then a one-year course “Treatment Attendant Training” must complete. The program is conducted by the National Institute of Naturopathy, Pune. After completing the course, students who aspire to pursue the curriculum will be eligible.

(d) Participants belonging to SC/ST/OBC are required to obtain atleast 40% of aggregate marks in 10+2 standard to pursue the BNYS course. This could vary depending on the colleges’ admission policies.

(e) The minimum age limit for the students to pursue the course is 17 years.

Entrance Exams to Get Admission to the Program-

Several colleges or universities are available for the students to pursue the course. But they require to complete some basic requirements. Very few colleges in India offer admission to the B.N.Y.S. course on the basis of the Intermediate examination. Most colleges or universities select aspiring candidates for the course based on the valid entrance rank or marks. So, it is really necessary for the students to clear the national or private entrance exams to study the Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science aspects. Some popular entrance exams in India that are conducted to provide admission to Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science course are listed down-

(a) NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test)- It is an entrance exam conducted by National Testing Agency to provide a seat in the medical colleges. It was formerly known as the All India Pre-Medical Test (A.I.P.M.T.) for M.B.B.S. and B.D.S. programmes in Indian medical and dental colleges.

(b) UP CAT (Combined Pre A.Y.U.S.H. Test)- The Uttar Pradesh Common Admission Test, also known as U.P.C.A.T., is a medical entrance exam administered by the Association of Private Medical and Dental College of Uttar Pradesh to allow admission to various medical courses. The U.P.C.A.T.- Dental exam is taken on an all India basis to select candidates for undergraduate degree programs, and it is usually conducted in June. The best thing about the U.P.C.A.T. entrance exam is that candidates from India and foreign nationals can take the M.D.S. entrance test.

(c) Punjab A.Y.U.S.H. Entrance Test- It is an entrance exam conducted to allocate seats in the medical and dental courses in the state of Punjab.

(d) CG B.N.Y.S. Entrance Exam- Chhattisgarh Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science entrance exam is a qualifying test for the B.N.Y.S. and various other medical courses in the state of Chhattisgarh.

(e) C.E.E.A.H. (Common Entrance Exam for Ayurveda and Homoeopathy, Assam)– An entrance exam conducted by Gauhati University to provide admission in the homoeopathy, Ayurveda and other medical courses in the state of Assam.

(f) E.A.M.C.E.T. (Telangana, Engineering Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test): It is an entrance exam held separately in the Indian State of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to offer admission in the various medical, engineering and agricultural courses. 

BNYS Admission Process

Admission to the Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences course depends on the institute’s entry procedures. Actually, the admission process differs from institute to institute. Hence, the aspiring students have two choices of admission: either they can be admitted to the colleges by clearing the entrance exams or through the intermediate academic performance. Very few colleges in India select candidates to study the BNYS course through the Intermediate scorecard. Aspirants really need to clear the national (NEET-UG) or state level entrance exam to get access into the renowned institutes. In India, there are several popular colleges/universities that provide access to study the course based on the valid rank or score in the entrance exams. Some popular entrance exams are NEET (UG), CEEAH, EAMCET, Punjab AYUSH Entrance Exam, and others.

Entrance based Entry to the Course:

(a) Students who have decided to apply for the B.N.Y.S. course through the entrance exam would have to first register themselves in the national or private-level entrance exams they are interested in. Following, you will have to pay the entrance examination fee.

(b) The concerned authority will provide the admit card to sit in the entrance exam. The participants must try to score above the cut-offs set up by the respective universities and institutes.

(b) Once the entrance exam results are declared and have scored above the cut-off, you will be called for a counselling round or personal interview. Even in this, participants will have to perform well.

(c) The interview rounded is conducted to check the candidate’s interest and basic knowledge in naturopathy and Yoga.

(d) In the last phase of the admission process, the colleges/universities will consider entrance exam scores and performance in P.I. to allocate seats into the B.N.Y.S. course. The students will be given a seat based on the entrance exam and the interview performance.

(e) If students successfully qualify both in entrance tests and interviews, they could get admission into the college. 

BNYS Course Syllabus

The topics of the curriculum are something similar to the MBBS program. In the course, students learn the combination of theoretical as well as practical aspects of the Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (BNYS).
