International Day of Families is celebrated to mark the importance of family and its values. It is observed on May 15th on recommendation of UN General Assembly. And, the objectives include spreading awareness on family issues that can potentially harm the peace and progress of communities.

History of International Day of Families
The UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) on 9 December 1989 proclaimed the International Year of the Families in its resolution 44/82. In 1993 The General Assembly decided in a resolution (A/RES/47/237) that 15 May of every year will be observed as the International Day of Families.
The main motive of the General Assembly was to highlight the determination of the UN to encourage people to better living standards and social progress for families across the world.
Significance of International Day of Families
The crucial reason behind celebrating the International Day of Families is to highlight the significance of family and its value. And, to enhance the knowledge of the economic, social, and demographic processes that affect the stability and structure of family units all over the world.
This day also highlights some issues related to the circumstances of the families. Undoubtedly, over the years, the international day of families has inspired many countries across the world to spend quality time with their own families and bring attention to family issues.
International Day of Families 2022 Theme
Every year, the secretary-general of the united nations announces a theme for the International Day of Families, to reflect the purpose of events. “Families and Urbanization” is the theme of International Family Day 2022.
How is International Families Day Celebrated?
Some events are organized at local, national, and international levels such as workshops, seminars, exhibitions, etc. Annual themes are discussed in workshops and seminars to encourage people, several educational campaigns are also started for the public to strengthen and support family units.
Some countries manufacture tool kits and distribute them among the public to help people in organizing celebrations and focus on a particular section of the population like school children, young adults, college-going, etc.
