History of International Nurses Day

Dorothy Sutherland, an official with the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, had proposed to President Dwight D. Eisenhower to celebrate “Nurses Day”. But he refused. Finally, after 20 years, May 12 was officially declared as ‘International Nurses Day’ cause, it was the day Florence Nightingale was born.
