She was recovering from the depression, but the god had another plan. In 2014, she lost her husband, followed by the death of another son. Draupadi Murmu lost her entire family, except a daughter, Itishri Murmu.

(a) She entered politics by joining the Bhartiya Janata Party. In 1997, she contested for councilor from Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat & won that very election. In the same year, she also became Rairangpur’s Vice-Chairperson.
(b) After serving her tenure as a Vice-President of BJP’s Scheduled Tribes Morcha, she entered into constituency election. In the year 2000, Smt. Murmu was elected as a legislator from the Rairangpur constituency.
(c) For the unversed, she even held the ministerial position during the BJD and BJP coalition government in Odisha. Talking about the same, Smt. Draupadi Murmu served as a minister in Commerce & Transport from March 6, 2000, to August 6, 2002. Subsequently August 6, 2002, to May 16, 2004, she served as minister of the Fisheries & Animal Resources Department.
(d) In 2004, she was again elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Rairangpur constituency.
