Sh. Mishra has served from Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) to Principal Secretary to the CMO in the Gujarat Government, and as the Special Secretary in Ministry of Home Affairs to Additional Principal Secretary to the PMO in the Union Government.

Education and Experience of PK Mishra

Pramod Kumar Mishra, often abbreviated as PK Mishra, was born on August 11, 1948. He is from Odisha and belongs to a Brahmin family. Dr. Mishra is a graduate of the Delhi School of Economics. He did his B.A. (Hons.) in Economics. Moreover, he holds the degree of M.A. and Ph.D. in Development Economics from Sussex University.

After his retirement as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, he was appointed as the Chairman of Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC), in 2008 by the Chief Minister of Gujarat. His five years stint as the Chairman of Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission came to an end on 11 August 2013, when he attained the age of 65.

Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already worked with Dr. Mishra before bringing in as the Additional Principal Secretary to the PMO. In 2001, when PM Modi took over as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, PK Mishra was appointed as the Principal Secretary of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

In 2014, when Mr. Modi took over as Prime Minister of India, Dr. Mishra was brought in as Additional Principal Secretary and looked after the crucial Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which makes top appointments at the Centre. As Additional Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister of India (2014-2019), he brought applaudable changes in human resource management, particularly appointments to senior positions.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India

On 11 June 2019, PK Mishra was re-appointed as Additional Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dr. Mishra has garnered lots of experience in his long career of holding the key positions for both State (Gujarat) and Central government such as Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister; Secretary of Agriculture and Cooperation; Chairman of State Electricity Regulatory Commission, and in the area of disaster management.

He showed his experience whenever required. During his tenure as Additional Principal Secretary, he has been considered as one of the best bureaucrats in Modi’s government. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment and the re-appointment of Principal Secretary Nripendra Misra from 31 May 2019. These appointments were designated to be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister. When Nripendra Mishra stepped down from the Principal Secretary, Dr. Mishra was chosen for this prestigious position.
