Himesh Reshammiya is an Indian playback singer, songwriter, music director, actor, and film & music producer in Hindi cinema. Reshammiya gave many hit songs in just a few years after gaining somewhat popularity through his debut in the film ‘Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’.
Childhood and Early Life of Himesh Reshammiya
Himesh Reshammiya was born on July 23, 1973, in Mumbai to Vipin Reshammiya, an Indian music composer, and Madhu Reshammiya. Himesh started his career, by producing TV series such as Aman, Aashiqui, Andaz, Amar Prem, Ahha, and Jaan on Zee TV.
In the 1990s, his father Vipin Reshammiya was supposed to make a film with actor Salman Khan. Due to some reasons, it didn’t happen. Salman Khan had already listened to some Compositions by Himesh, which really impressed him a lot. So, he decided to give a chance to Himesh to compose music for his film.
In 1998, Himesh made his debut as a music composer with the film ‘Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’. He composed two songs for that film, one title track ‘Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya’ and ‘Tum Par Hum Hai Aatke’. Both the songs became super hits.
He later collaborated with other composers to create the music for the films Bandhan and Hello Brother. The first time when he worked as a solo composer was, for the film “Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge”. When Reshammiya composed the soundtrack for Humraaz, he became somewhat famous. For this, he was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Music Direction.
In 2003, after composing music for the film “Tere Naam”, he gained some more popularity. He won several awards for this, including the Zee Cine Award for Best Music Director and Screen Award for Best Music Director. He wrote music for ten films in 2004 and ‘Aitraaz’ was one of them.
In 2005, he worked for ten more films, including “Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?” and “Aashiq Banaya Apne”. With the song “Aashiq Banaya Aapne,” he started his career as a playback singer. The song won him multiple awards, including the Zee Cine Award for Best Male Playback Singer.
Later Career after Gained Somewhat Popularity
In his career as a singer, he gave many popular hit songs such as “Zara Jhoom Jhoom”, “Andaz Apna Apna”, “Aashiq Banaya Aapne”, “Jhalak Dikhlaja”, “Tandoori Nights”, “Tera Suroor”, “Afsana”, “Hookah Bar”, “Chalao Na Naino Se”, “Shakalaka Boom Boom”, and “Meri Awaargi”.
His music is composed in a way that blends Western and Indian classical music as well as Western and Indian rock music with techno beats. He was the first Indian artist to play at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam and the Wembley Arena in London.
Beginning with the movie Aap Kaa Surroor, Reshammiya has also worked as an actor. Reshammiya was a mentor and judge for the Zee TV singing competition Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge. His group was known as Jai Mata Di Let’s Rock Gharana. He also served as a judge for the musical reality competition Sur Kshetra.
On November 4, 2013, Reshammiya announced his film “The Xpose”. Apart from acting in that film, he also produced it on his own. However, it was a flop at the box office. Later, he worked in several movies as an actor but it didn’t work for him. Almost, all movies were a flop in which he worked.
On June 5, 2022, he launched his music label Himesh Reshammiya Melodies. he announced his upcoming studio album “Surroor 2021”, the second album of the Surroor franchise to be released after 2006.
Himesh Reshammiya Wife
In 1995, Reshammiya married Komal at the age of 21 and the couple has a son named Swaym. On September 12, 2016, Himesh and Komal mutually decided to separate and seek divorce due to a lack of compatibility. They had ended their 22 years long wedding.
The couple received their divorce decree from Bombay Court on June 6. In response, Himesh issued a statement saying, “Sometimes in life mutual respect becomes most important and giving due respect to our relationship, Komal and me have amicably decided to part ways legally as husband and wife, and there is no problem whatsoever with this decision amongst us and our family as every member of the family have respected our decision. Komal is and will always remain a part of our family and I will always be a part of her family”.
After taking divorced, Himesh secretly married his long-time girlfriend, actress Sonia Kapoor on May 11, 2018. According to their social media, the couple shares a luxurious home. Controversies of Himesh Reshammiya
In the early stage of his singing career, he was criticized for his nasal singing style (using his nose while singing). In response to that criticism, he stated that R. D. Burman likewise used his nose to sing during his early singing career.
Asha Bhosle, a famous singer, and Burman’s wife responded by saying, “If somebody says Burman Saab sang through his nose, he should be slapped”. Later, Reshammiya explained that he never meant to disrespect R. D. Burman.
In his debut movie, Aap Kaa Surroor, Himesh included the song “Tanhaiyyan” from Boney Kapoor’s unproduced film. The song was originally created by Reshammiya for Kapoor’s movie, but he later decided to use it in his own film.
Tips, the owner of the Milenge Milenge audio rights, accused Reshammiya of copyright infringement because T-Series had bought the audio rights to “Aap Kaa Surroor – The Real Luv Story.” Reshammiya defended himself, saying that initially, he had no intention to use the song in his own film.
Himesh wanted his song to get included in the movie “Milenge Milenge” but it didn’t happen, even after he had made Kapoor listen to the song. He also claimed that since there had been no development on the movie despite his seven-month contact attempt with Kapoor, he allegedly opted to utilize the song in his own film.
